Kim Kardashian Talks Sustainable Living and Eco-Friendly Beauty with Rural Living Website

Today we have a very special guest on our rural living and homesteading website – Kim Kardashian. Though she’s most known for her reality TV show and being part of a famous family, Kim has also been making waves recently in the sustainable living community with her efforts to live more eco-friendly.

Q: Hi Kim! Thanks so much for joining us today. Can you tell us a little bit about what sparked your interest in sustainable living?

A: Of course! I think it started when I became a mom. I wanted to make sure my kids were growing up in a healthy environment, both physically and mentally. I’ve always been interested in fashion and beauty, but as I learned more about how those industries can be harmful to the planet, it felt like an obvious choice for me to start exploring ways that my family could live more sustainably.

Q: That makes sense. What are some specific changes you’ve made around your home or lifestyle to reflect this commitment?

A: A lot of small things, really. We switched out all our light bulbs for LED ones, which use way less energy than traditional bulbs. We try to buy organic produce whenever possible and shop locally at farmers’ markets instead of buying from big chain stores. We also installed solar panels on our roof last year which has helped reduce our reliance on non-renewable energy sources.

Q: Those are all great ideas! You mentioned fashion earlier – how do you reconcile your love of style with trying to be environmentally conscious?

A: It’s definitely tough sometimes because the fast-fashion industry is one of the biggest contributors to waste and pollution globally. But there are still ways you can enjoy fashion while being mindful of its impact on the planet – like buying secondhand clothes instead of new ones or investing in pieces that are made from sustainable materials like bamboo or linen.

Q: That’s helpful advice! Do you have any tips for people who might want to start living more sustainably but don’t know where to begin?

A: I think the most important thing is just to start small. It can feel overwhelming to try and overhaul your entire lifestyle at once, so focus on making one change at a time – maybe that’s switching to reusable grocery bags or bringing your own water bottle instead of buying single-use plastic ones. And don’t be too hard on yourself if you slip up sometimes! This isn’t about being perfect, it’s about doing what you can to make a positive impact.

Q: That’s great advice! On another note, we have a lot of readers who are interested in homesteading and self-sufficiency. Have you ever thought about starting your own homestead or garden?

A: I haven’t yet, but it’s definitely something that interests me! Right now my family lives in the city so space is limited, but I could see us eventually moving somewhere with more land where we could grow our own food and raise animals.

Q: That sounds amazing! Do you have any favorite sustainable living bloggers or resources that you turn to for inspiration?

A: There are so many great ones out there – some of my favorites include Lauren Singer (Trash Is For Tossers), Bea Johnson (Zero Waste Home), and Kathryn Kellogg (Going Zero Waste). They all have different perspectives and approaches to sustainability which I find really inspiring.

Q: Thanks for sharing those names with us! Lastly, do you have any upcoming projects or initiatives related to sustainability that you’re excited about?

A: Yes actually! My beauty brand KKW Beauty recently launched a new line of products called “KKW x Allison” which was created in collaboration with environmental activist Allison McNamara. We worked really hard to make sure everything from the packaging materials to the formulations themselves were as eco-friendly as possible. It was such an exciting project for me because it felt like a way to merge my passion for beauty with my commitment to sustainability.

Q: That’s so cool! We’ll definitely have to check out that line. Well, thank you so much for chatting with us today, Kim. It was great to hear your perspective on sustainable living and we’re really inspired by everything you’re doing!

A: Thank you so much for having me!
