Emma Watson: Actress, Feminist Activist, and Philanthropist Extraordinaire

Emma Watson: A Talented Actress, Feminist Activist, and Philanthropist

Emma Watson is a well-known British actress who has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide with her performances on both stage and screen. However, there is much more to this talented young woman than just her acting skills. In recent years, Emma has become an outspoken feminist activist and philanthropist dedicated to making the world a better place for women everywhere.

Early Life

Born in Paris in 1990 to English parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, Emma grew up in Oxfordshire, England. She attended The Dragon School as a child before moving on to Headington School for Girls. It was during her time at school that she discovered her love for acting, taking part in various school plays and productions.

Career Beginnings

At the age of 10, Emma auditioned for the role of Hermione Granger in the film adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. To her surprise and delight, she was chosen out of thousands of other young actresses for the coveted role alongside Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley). The first Harry Potter film premiered in 2001 when Emma was just 11 years old.

The Harry Potter series went on to become one of the most successful movie franchises in history. Over eight films spanning ten years from 2001-2011, Emma portrayed Hermione Granger with poise and intelligence beyond her years that earned critical acclaim from fans all over the world.

Post-Harry Potter Career

After completing filming for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 in 2010/2011 respectively – which marked an end to an era – Emma took some time off from acting briefly to attend Brown University where she majored in English literature.

In addition to continuing as an actress after graduating college (most notably playing Belle opposite Dan Stevens in Disney’s 2017 live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast), Emma has also become involved in activism and philanthropy.

Activism

Emma Watson is a proud feminist who has used her platform as an actress to speak out about gender inequality. In September 2014, she launched the United Nations Women campaign “HeForShe,” which aims to engage men and boys as advocates for gender equality.

During her speech at the UN General Assembly, Emma said: “I decided I was a feminist, and this seemed uncomplicated to me. But my recent research has shown me that feminism has become an unpopular word. Women are choosing not to identify as feminists.”

Since then she’s been advocating for equal pay across genders, end child marriage, promote women education among other things.

Philanthropy

Alongside her activism work, Emma Watson is also known for her philanthropic efforts. She serves on the board of directors for Kering – a French luxury goods company – with a mission towards sustainability; works closely with Camfed International (Campaign For Female Education) – an international non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating poverty by educating girls and empowering young women; supports numerous charities including Children in Need, Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, Comic Relief amongst others.

In addition to these charitable causes mentioned above, Emma Watson also launched Good On You – an app aimed at helping people make more sustainable fashion choices by providing information about ethical fashion brands around the world.

Conclusion

From playing Hermione Granger in Harry Potter films to becoming an outspoken feminist activist & philanthropist dedicated towards making changes that could help make our society more equalitarian than ever before; Emma Watson continues inspiring millions worldwide with her work both on-screen & off-screen.
With such multifaceted endeavors under her belt so far it will be interesting what direction she takes herself next!
