Celebrities Embrace Traditional Crafts and Trades as a Form of Connection and Fulfillment

Actor Viggo Mortensen is another celebrity who has embraced traditional crafts. Mortensen is perhaps best known for his role as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings trilogy but he’s also an accomplished painter and photographer.

In recent years, Mortensen has turned his attention to traditional crafts like woodworking, leatherworking, and basket weaving. He even founded his own publishing company called Perceval Press which focuses on books related to art, literature, and culture.

Mortensen’s interest in these crafts grew out of his desire to live a simpler life closer to nature. He owns a farm in upstate New York where he grows much of his own food and raises animals like chickens and sheep.

As part of this lifestyle, Mortensen has made it a priority to learn as many traditional skills as possible. He’s taken classes in everything from blacksmithing to cheese making and plans to feature these skills on a Rural Living and Homesteading website that he’s developing.
