Discover the Nutritional Benefits of Homemade Raw Milk Yogurt

Raw milk yogurt is a popular and nutritious food that many people love. It is made by fermenting raw milk with live cultures, which convert the lactose in the milk into lactic acid. This process thickens the milk and gives it a tangy flavor.

To make raw milk yogurt, you will need to start with high-quality raw milk from grass-fed cows. Many homesteaders choose to raise their own cows or purchase raw milk directly from local farmers who follow good hygiene practices.

Once you have your raw milk, heat it on medium-low heat until it reaches 180°F (82°C). This step pasteurizes the milk without destroying its beneficial bacteria. Allow the milk to cool to 110°F (43°C) before adding your culture – either plain yogurt or a commercial starter culture specifically designed for making yogurt.

After adding your culture, stir well and transfer the mixture to a clean container. Cover with a lid or cloth and keep in a warm place where it can ferment for at least six hours or up to 24 hours depending on how tangy you like your yogurt.

When ready, refrigerate your homemade raw milk yogurt until cold before enjoying as is or sweetening with honey and topping with fresh fruit or granola.

Homemade raw milk yogurt has numerous health benefits including probiotics that support gut health, vitamins A and D that promote healthy eyesight and immune function, calcium that strengthens bones among other benefits.

It’s important to note that some people may be sensitive to lactose in this form of dairy product however fermentation reduces lactose content thus increasing its digestibility compared to unfermented diary products like cow’s’ Milk

In conclusion, making homemade raw-milk yoghurt can be an enjoyable experience while providing numerous nutritional benefits when consumed moderately as part of one’s diet.
