All You Need to Know About Goats: Insights from Experts on Raising, Feeding and Training.

Panel Discussion: All You Need to Know About Goats

Goats have been domesticated for thousands of years and are one of the oldest domesticated animals in the world. In recent times, these animals have become popular with homesteaders and small-scale farmers due to their usefulness in providing milk, meat, fiber, and as working animals.

To enlighten us on all we need to know about goats, we have a panel of experts who will be sharing their knowledge and experiences.

Firstly, we have Jane Smith, a homesteader from Pennsylvania who has been raising goats for over 20 years. According to her, “goats are great animals that provide an array of products such as milk which can be used for cheese making or drinking straight; meat which is leaner than beef; fiber which can be spun into yarn or even used for insulation; and they can also be trained as pack animals.”

Next up is Dr. John Doe from the Department of Veterinary Medicine at XYZ University. He emphasized the importance of proper nutrition when it comes to raising goats. “Goats require a balanced diet rich in roughages such as hay and pasture grasses,” he said. “Supplementation with minerals like calcium and phosphorous is also necessary.” Dr. Doe advised against feeding them too much grain as it could cause health problems like bloat.

Finally, we have Tom Brown from Oklahoma who trains goats for packing purposes. Mr.Brown shared some insights into training these intelligent creatures saying that “training should begin when they are young – around three months old – using positive reinforcement techniques such as clicker training.” He added that patience is key during the training process.

In conclusion, if you’re considering adding goats to your homestead or farm operation then you’ll find them easy keepers with numerous benefits but remember they do require proper care especially in terms of nutrition so make sure you consult an expert before starting out!
