Proper ventilation is also critical as it helps to prevent the build-up of CO2 which can inhibit mushroom growth. Carbon dioxide (CO2) buildup inside growing rooms or greenhouses must be avoided at all costs because high concentrations can be toxic to both humans and mushrooms alike.

Another important factor is lighting; while mushrooms do not require much light during their vegetative stage, they need brighter light once they begin to produce fruiting bodies. LED lights have become popular among growers because they emit less heat compared to traditional incandescent bulbs.

When it comes time for harvesting your mushrooms, use a sharp knife or pair of scissors and cut them off at the base rather than pulling them out directly from substrate material.
